The vineyards around Schloss Frankenberg in Germany have been recorded in official documents for centuries. The Louisenberg, Hölle, and Wolfsgrube sites are located on open slopes with south and west orientations and are primarily planted with Riesling, Weißburgunder, and the exceptional Blauer Sylvaner.
The philosophy of our winery ensures sustainable soil management, careful selection during harvest, and gentle use of cellar techniques. This results in classic white wines full of elegance and body. The Schloss bottlings are filled into Schlegel bottles, designed after historical models.
The estate is uniquely situated between the Helderberg Mountains and False Bay. At this meeting point, the vineyards are cooled by a fresh sea breeze, imbuing the fertile soil with a maritime character and allowing the grapes to ripen more slowly. This distinctive terroir is one of the aspects that give the wines their exceptional taste.
The winery is one of the oldest working farms in South Africa, with land rights granted in 1696. The graceful Cape Dutch homestead, dating from 1773, is celebrated to this day as a national monument.
